- Capture, annotate, copy and save, forever
- OCR of the selection, on your own machine
- Delayed capture and drop-down menu capture
- No account, no expiry, no watermark
You press a key, the screen freezes and everything happens inside a minimal overlay: you pick what to capture, annotate it, copy it or save it. When you are done, Vixnap disappears.
Capturing, annotating, copying and saving is never charged for: it is why you install Vixnap. What costs disk, bandwidth or GPU every time it runs is what has a plan.

from the key to seeing the overlay
annotation tools on the same bar
clipboard formats, so it pastes into any app
editor windows, libraries or menus nobody uses
Arrow, rectangle, ellipse, line, pen, text, highlighter, pixelate and step numbers. All on the same floating bar, over the capture, with colour and thickness one click away.
Select any annotation with a click and adjust it by its handles, move it, or delete it with Del.
Double-click a text to rewrite it; change its colour and thickness from the same bar.
Real undo and redo: one gesture, one step. Ctrl+Z never gets stuck.
Confirming means disappearing immediately. The slow work, encoding the image and writing it to disk, happens with the overlay already hidden. You are already pasting.
A single colour on the bar: the exit action. There is never any doubt about what Enter does.
A toast with a thumbnail confirms where the capture went. Click to open it.
PNG, DIB and file path at once, so it pastes properly into chat, email or your design tool.
Vixnap never leaves the clipboard locked, which is the reason it exists. It opens it, writes, and releases it by construction.
To your captures folder with a date-and-time name. Configurable in Settings.
Save as, copy and save, or open the folder. You decide what the second button does.
A tool that shows up when you call it and leaves when it is done.
The overlay is already created before you press the key. It appears in under 200 ms.
One overlay per screen, each at its own scale. A laptop at 150% and a monitor at 100% with nothing out of place.
No main window. An icon in the Windows tray or the macOS menu bar: click to capture, menu for settings and quit.
The floating bar is glass: it reacts under the cursor and does not cover what you are capturing.
Everything the bar does has a key. The whole screen goes straight to the clipboard with Ctrl+PrtScn, no overlay and no questions.
The main shortcut is changed in Settings. If Windows has PrtScn reserved, Vixnap detects it and tells you where to free it.
On macOS, ⌘ takes the place of Ctrl and ⌫ that of Del. The capture shortcut is chosen in Settings.
| PrtScn | Freeze the screen and open the overlay |
| Ctrl+PrtScn | Full screen straight to the clipboard |
| Enter | Confirm with the main action (copy) |
| Ctrl+S | Save to the captures folder |
| Ctrl+Shift+S | Save as… |
| ←+↑+→+↓ | Adjust the selection pixel by pixel |
| Ctrl+Z | Undo the last annotation |
| Del | Delete the selected annotation |
| Esc | Cancel and disappear |
Every feature has to prove that most people will use it. These already have, and they are on the way.
The same area you capture, as video. The button is already on the bar.
Leave the crop floating over the desktop, always on top, while you work.
Long pages and lists in a single image.
OCR on the selection, to paste the text instead of the image.
Your latest captures within reach from the tray.
A few seconds to open that menu that closes when you press the key.
What people usually ask before installing.
Yes. Vixnap downloads and installs with no account and no payment. There is no Pro version hiding behind the features you see here.
Windows 11 reserves that key for its Snipping Tool, and intercepts it before it reaches any application. Vixnap detects this and notes it in Settings.
To free it: Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard → turn off “Use the Print screen key to open screen capture”. Vixnap does not touch that option for you: it is your accessibility setting.
The first time, macOS will ask for Screen Recording permission for Vixnap in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Without it the capture comes out black. Vixnap lives in the menu bar, and the shortcut is chosen in Settings so it does not clash with the system Screenshot ones.
By default in your Pictures folder, inside “Vixnap”, named with the date and time. The folder and the name pattern are changed in Settings.
Yes. Each monitor has its own overlay at its real scale, and a selection can cross from one screen to another. The final crop is made from the complete desktop, so it comes out pixel-perfect even with one monitor at 150% and another at 100%.
Because that is the reason it exists. The Windows Snipping Tool sometimes hangs with the clipboard open and leaves the whole system unable to copy. Vixnap opens the clipboard, writes the three formats and always releases it, including when something fails halfway.
No. Vixnap sends nothing anywhere. It only connects if you enable automatic updates, and only to check whether there is a new version.
